Morey mentioned in the newsletter that he found the gate open. I find the gate open most of the time when I go to the range on a weekend late in the day. I found it open on Jan 22nd. It was late in the day and there was no one at the range. I was the only one there, gate was wide open and the lock was hanging on the chain. These are usually match days where the match director or the person in charge of the event has left before the last participant has left. I am guessing that they assume the last guy out will lock the gate. If everyone did this, we wouldn't need a lock. The gate would always be open. Ed talked with a member the other day about leaving the gate open behind him. The member apologized and said he would never do that again. A STRONG reminder in the orientation might help with the new members.
We ALL need to do a better job of keeping the gate closed and locked when it should be.

I am the estimator/sales person for a local fence company, and I would be willing to answer any questions about installing an electric gate operator. I may even be interested in offering a discounted price in exchange for membership, or a discounted membership. If interested contact me at cman3899@hotmail.com Q & A at no charge.

I went to the range yesterday evening and found the gate open. No lock on it.
I think members need to understand why it is important to lock the gate. I want it locked for my safety. Non-members entering obviously believe it is ok to trespass and probably won't adhere to safe gun handling rules, thus putting my life in jeopardy and the increasing the liablility for the club.

Occasionally there are events that are open to non-members. During these events the gate may be open. I believe that was the case yesterday.

Another problem with leaving the gate open is possible theft of your firearms and equipment. Nothing begs a fresh hole like a new target.

At the begining of the season Mark stated that he was going to try a league on Tues night. I think Tim has his league on Thurs night. So I assumed that Mark, or whoever was running the league that night, would have the lock. If there was not somesort of an event, then someone should refrain from taking the lock. It is my understanding that the only time that lock is to be removed, is when an organizied event is taking place.
