I can highly recommend Jim's Gun Shop in the Auburn area. He's located straignt out Urish Rd. to 77th St South then about 1/4 mile west. He's open on Tuesday and Thursday. His phone number is 256-2425. his name is Jim Hovey.

I have had good experiences with High Plains Gun Shop, which you pass en route to CCGC. I have used them for about 6 projects from 2000-present. They seem geared to modern arms (1900-present) with available parts and in this regard their staff seems to me to be knowledgeable and they have done good work on my rifles. I had them do a restoration on an old Damascus shotgun (an 1890s heirloom that will not be fired) and I was somewhat disappointed in it, but it needed alot of specialized work like screw replacements and wood restoration so frankly I don't fault them for the result as this was a difficult project and they charged me a fair amount for what they did get accomplished so I wasn't unhappy overall. I used www.oldgundoctor.com and they did a complete restoration that turned out just beautifully. Old Gun doctor is slow but they did good work for a good rate (cheap, fast, good -pick two) In any case I would recommend High Plains Gun shop for most things as they have done good work on my modern firearms for good rates. Their storefront is well stocked as well with new and used firearms, ammunition, and supplies.

I have had good luck with Jim Coffman on 7th st. in North Lawrence. He can work on old firearms and is good with wood and metal.
